The Bridge Program of Genesis in Milwaukee
Why was the Bridge Program developed?
Genesis in Milwaukee found it necessary to create a “bridge” of resources and support for returning citizens, giving them a direct link to the resources needed to remain out of the Correctional system.
Since most (90%) inmates are eventually released from prison, rehabilitative programs and treatment services can prepare inmates for their successful return to society.Inmates who complete the GED, vocational training, and substance abuse treatment programs generally have successful outcomes in terms of program completion and lower recidivism. The Department of Corrections reports that inmates who complete rehabilitative programs recidivate (return to crime) less than inmates who fail to complete these programs.
How Does the Bridge Program work?
Genesis in Milwaukee facilitates a series of Open forum seminars focusing on re-entry. These seminars, aimed at Milwaukee’s returning citizens, bring important resources from Employment to Housing, as well as mentoring opportunities (spiritual, financial and life) to the following Wisconsin Institutions;
- Milwaukee County House of Correction
- Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility
- Milwaukee Women’s Correctional Center
- Racine Correctional Institution
- Kettle Moraine Correctional Center
